APPENDIX H Adenovirus Sequence Comparisons
Abstract
1. Terminal DNA Sequences of Adenoviruses 2, 5, 3, 7, and 12 and Simian Adenovirus 7 and Mouse Adenovirus-FL
In Figure H.1, the sequences were aligned to achieve maximum homology and to allow an indication of recurrent variations at certain positions (T. R. Broker). The sequences were determined as follows: adenovirus 3, simian adenovirus 7, and adenovirus 12 (Huie)* (Tolun et al. 1979); adenovirus 12 (Huie)* (Sugisaki et al. 1980); adenovirus 7 (Gomen) (Dijkema and Dekker 1979; Dijkema et al. 1980a,b); adenovirus 7 (Greider) and adenovirus 12 (Huie)** (Shinagawa and Padmanabhan 1980); adenovirus 5 (Steenbergh et al. 1977); adenovirus 2† (Shinagawa and Padmanabhan 1979); adenovirus 2†† (Arrand and Roberts 1979); and mouse adenovirus-FL (Temple et al. 1981). Additional homologies between portions of the inverted terminal repetition (ITR) of simian adenovirus-7 DNA and the SV40 DNA replication origin have been described by Tolun et al. (1979) and homologies between the ITR of mouse adenovirus-FL DNA and the polyoma DNA replication origin have been noted by Temple et al. (1981).

2. Comparison of Nucleotide Sequences of Adenoviruses 5, 7, and 12 in Early Region 1A
Early region 1A DNA sequences of adenovirus 5 (Appendix D, Section D.1: van Ormondt et al. 1978), adenovirus 7 (Appendix E, Section E.1: Dijkema et al. 1980a), and adenovirus 12 (Appendix F, Section F.1: Sugisaki et al. 1980) were aligned (van Ormondt et al. 1980) as shown in Figure H.2. The dashes are the result of shifting the sequences so as to obtain maximum homology. Positions of...
