APPENDIX I Adenovirus-SV40 Hybrids

Abstract

As described in Chapter 11, the nondefective adenovirus-2–SV40 hybrid viruses were isolated by Lewis et al. (1969 Lewis et al. (1973). The DNA segments derived from adenovirus 2 and from SV40 were analyzed by Kelly and Lewis (1973) using electron microscopic hetero-duplex mapping. The junction sequences and ND4 deletion shown in Figure I.1 were determined by E. H. Lee and S. Zain (pers. comm.) and by Zain and Roberts (1978). The adenovirus nucleotide numbers refer to those assigned by Hérissé et al. (1980) and by Hérissé and Galibert (1981) (see Appendix D, Section D.7[a]). The SV40 nucleotide numbers are those used in Appendix A.
